Jos De Mey studied Decorative Arts and Interior Architecture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. Thanks to his teacher Gaston Eysselinck he came into contact with the furniture company Van den Berghe-Pauvers. During this period, De Mey also designed furniture for Luxus, a company based in Kortrijk.
